North Fremantle

Located ‘over the bridge’, North Fremantle covers the narrow stretch between the Indian ocean and the Derbarl Yerrigan (Swan River), bordering Mosman Park. Once its own municipality, it joined the City of Fremantle in the 1920s.

North Fremantle housing is in strong demand. Median house prices are higher than elsewhere throughout the city of Fremantle. High end Leighton beach apartments claim ocean views and an enviable beachside lifestyle, with favourites like Bib & Tucker restaurant, the Orange Box café and new wine bars drawing crowds on summer weekends. Elsewhere in the suburb, more affordable apartment options exist close to the railway station, and in modern developments off McCabe Street. There are historic riverside homes off John Street adjacent to one of the most picturesque cricket grounds in Perth, the river-fronted Gilbert Fraser Reserve.

The strip shops along Queen Victoria Street bring vibrancy. Old Bridge Cellars, Piggy Food Co, Mrs Brown wine bar, Flipside and the iconic live music venue, Mojos, are all here. Dethridge Groves Real Estate proudly sold the historic North Fremantle Town Hall several years back. It’s now home to a function centre, commercial offices and a restaurant.
